I was just thinking to myself. Why not buy a mid sixties 330/12 for say $3k - $4k and then have it double bound with an aged white binding and sell it for $25k? Would that be ethical?

I don't see a problem with it.
Don't forget to change the jackplate to ric-o-sound!

I've done a half-dozen of these...
NOT!!!
This, carried to one logical conclusion, would see mid-sixties ROS jackplates selling for $5K...

I do not advise altering an all original vintage guitar in good to mint condition.
I would also not alter a guitar that only needs a neck reset or has finish rash in small areas.
If the guitar is solid but has had some parts stolen from it I would try to find parts to put the guitar back to original.
If the guitar has any major damage that would require say a new neck then the guitar is game for a custom project.

If a somber note is interjected into a light-hearted and ironic dialogue and no smilies are present, what are we to make of this?

My light-hearted dialogue regards vintage guitars only.
Knock yourself out with new guitars.

Good point Jeff - I'd forgotten about those sparklers ! Hey - but that would make it even rarer....$30k
