Also glad to hear him sing normally in this version, I can't stand his "Dolly Parton" like vocals.
I am just discovering Rush's music and it's so humbling if you think that it's only THREE people making it.

hahaha Dolly Parton?! I've heard a lot of funny descriptions for Geddy's voice (Donald Duck on helium for example), but I've never heard that. Please humor me with an example of a song where this is evident.

i think that performance hits the mark of how excessive 3 musicians can be. if there was a triple neck, i'm sure ti would have been on that stage.
as a Canadian, i'm allowed to be critical of Rush.

Well, Bryce, it is an epic topic....
I do admire Geddy for his ability to play and sing. Also he and Alex wore those heavy beasts for at least 11 or so minutes. But there are very few Rush songs I would pay money for. I know, unpopular statement.

Did Geddy ever use the 6-string (or 12-string) neck on his double necks? I recall reading ages ago in Guitar Player Magazine that he used the double neck live just for the added mass and sustain.

He plays the 12-string of 4080/12 in the end of "Xanadu" and also during the guitar solo of "Passage To Bangkok",the only songs it was used live.I don't think he ever used the 4080 live.

Geddy Lee is an awesome musician in the true sense of the word.
As for the "Dolly Parton" vocals its all down to personal taste.
Jon Anderson had the same kind of criticism and he told me that one critic said he sounded like Shirley Bassey which pleased him because he really admired her singing!
So you never know,Geddy might be a big fan of Dolly Parton.

Although Geddy might share the sound of his voice with Dolly, she looks quite opposite to him (in girth and other sizes). I don't think he is a fan of this type of women?

That guy is the reason I play bass - and Rickenbackers. When I was a kid, I saw ESL and was blown away by this 90 lb guy turned into a fire breathing monster with the addition of a 4001. That tone was fearsome.

I've heard Geddy's singing described as "singing in a trash can", but it's down to personal taste I suppose. I don't mind it at all, but Jon Anderson drives me up the wall, so 'to each, his own'.
+1 on the extra mass regarding the 4080! They sound fantastic! If I'm not too tired to begin the night, I like to use mine as long as possible when we gig.

I am pretty sure you would not like them. They are very heavy and hard to play.
You just may have the largest 4080 collection in the world, Dave. Unless Graham or Simon have some stashed away that we have not heard about, you hold the Forum title. I don't know if it is right but I've heard estimates of as few as 200 total having been made. I think Scott Jennings said that but I could be wrong. There so many sources of info these days.
