My 92 4003 is back working again. After having the Tailpiece drilled for the 2 extra screws,Thanks Gary Clauson for the template and advice. All it was,was a faulty G string, and this was a new set of strings. So i bought a new set of Rotosounds yesterday and everything worked. So thanks to everyone who chipped in with advice, that's what makes this Forum great everyone shares their knowledge and does their best to help anyone who asks.

Well, you won't need to worry about tail lift anymore! Did you do the washers on the 3 screws under the bridge? Also did you notice more sustain or low end tone?

Yes i did the washers under the bridge, and there is a change for the better,i also have managed to get the action lower and there is more sustain than i had before.

John,
Can you fill me in on this "washers under the 3 screws under the bridge" thing...
I've missed that trick, what's the deal with that?
Thanks!

Thank you Peter!
My 81 4001 doesn't have much lift at all but this looks like a GREAT WAY to go!
Thanks again!

Tony, just make sure the washers or maple you use to fill in the gap ONLY fills in the gap and is not thicker. You don't want to raise the tailpiece any off the body wood contact area.

Hey what size washers have folks been using here? and approx how many?

Tom, the inner hole has to fit the tailpiece screws. Other than that, it might be wise to get more than one size which gives you more than one thickness to work with - that way some combination will be JUST thick enough to fill the gap.
I really like Ted's fix of a piece of maple made to fit just right - wish I had a piece - and years ago I cut down a hard maple tree out of the back yard for sun on the pool. Arbor day it was....

Thanks John, HAHAHAHAHA ... too funny. I'll have to check my pile out back. Had a part of a Maple go down last year. Maybe the kids haven't burned it yet in one of their bonfires.

Thanks John,
Will do, I'll start with the washers first and see how it works out.

All are welcome, I'm just replowing other's furrows.
David, I used washers. Ted posted in a thread (with a pic or two IIRC) about making a maple plug - he just shaves/sands it to the correct thickness and hand shapes it to fit the rout.
