can anyone suggest a flatwound with similar tonal characteristics to the TI flats, but with a higher tension (suitable for a 4001).
thanks

The closest I can think of are D'Addario Chromes.

I have used Ernie Ball flats on both a 4004 and my C64. Good sound, but quite a bit higher tension than the TI Jazz flats. The EB's cause some tailpiece lift on my 4001 C64 however.

dr is now making a flatwound hi-beam,but there is no info on their website, last time i checked,on specific tension...it is a 40-105 set,so it COULD be somewhat high...if anyone has knows any more, please post. i have tried and love most of the standard dr string types lo riders,hi-beams,sunbeams...so am really curious about the flats....

thanks for all the suggestions.
David, i find the TI's a little 'loose' if that makes sense (i play up near the neck pup).
i quite like the ti's though, just curious i suppose, as i have a new 4001 that needs to be re-strung, thought i might try something else for comparison.

I just put DR Flats on my fretless P bass and really like them a lot. I was surprised to find them at my local dealer. They sound great. They are probably not as low tension as the TIs. But they're also cheaper than the TIs and I like them better than the Chromes I had.
I'd recommend them to anyone who likes DR high Beam rounds. They seem really good to me.

I used to have Fender 9050 ML's on my 4001 and loved the sound. They are probably a bit too high tension however. Only issue was a little too much bow in the neck, but that's because I'm to much of a wuss to try and adjust the rods on my 75...
