Brite Flats for a 4004

I'm gonna put these on the 4004 this weekend. I didn't care for the feel of the TI jazz rounds in the store. Does anyone remember who makes half rounds, in case I don't like these? I have a feeling I will like Chromes the best so I'm saving the strings as they are almost new.

We're talking about the GHS Brite Flats right? I like those a lot. Played them on a friend's 4001. Very nice.

Seems like D'Addario and Rotosound still make half-rounds.
SIT Power Flats sound interesting from their marketing description - they are called semi-flat. "Flatter than half flat, but not quite as flat as a pure flatwound."
Anyone ever use those?
There have to be others...

Yup Kenny, the GHS ones. Got 'em at Truetone. I am practically down the street from them here at UMG!!

I stumbled onto this site that has some reviews. The one that caught my eye is the Dean Markley Fretmaster. Anyone tried those?

GHS makes both a ground wound and a compression wound. They describe them as going from the brightest round wound, compression wound, ground wound, then flats.
I recently put a set of GHS Presion Flatwound Stainledd steel strings on my bass, set M3050 0.045 through 0.105. I like the feel and sound, but keep in mind I rarely play bass so I'm no expert.

I'm in the market for flats for my Cii, also....but I'm tired of spending so many $$$$ for strings and then not liking them. (start violins)
It seems the 4004's don't respond well to flats?

I just got a 4004MG from John Biscuti with flats on it. I don't know what kind they are(maybe he'll chime in about that) but they feel nice with a sound that really opened up once I got the action down closer to the pickups. Since it's being converted to fretless very soon, I'll put them back on and see what I think.

So John, your 4004 MG has gone to Dane as part of what I understand from another thread, is a three way deal. What did you pick up? Enquiring minds want to know!

Chris....I love flats on my 4004's. I have Chromes on the LK and LaBella Deep Talkin' flats on my Laredos. I prefer the LaBellas slightly......they sound just a tad brighter.
Another issue may just be that the Cii's sound just a bit mellow compared to the Laredos (and 4003s). Maybe a set of "ground" or coated rounds might be a good alternative. Swapping out the pots could unleash a little more bite as well which would liven up the tone of the flats.

Year old rounds get enough bright but lose all the annoying overtones that the members of the flat-earth
society would be gone with.
I know - I am a member of the flat-earth society, and I've had the same set of RW's on my Laredo for about 18 months now. They feel great, and sound great too.
