Ok, looks like I'm an APRIL FOOL, but that's nothing new!

I'm curious, IF the 4005AF REALLY existed, who would actually order one if the cost was say, $4000.00?

I don't remember what John said they would actually have to charge IF they did remake one...

Starting with 4K a BASE number...lets see JUST how many they COULD really sell....

I can't HONESTLY say I'd order one, I've never seen one live, not to mention actually HOLD or PLAY one. BUT, IF they are as sweet as everyone says, I'd have to think about it.

I would. I've wanted one for years. I'd pay my 5K and take that sucker to my grave! Image

The reason it was discontinued in the first place is they didn't sell well ...

"...who would actually order one if the cost was say, $4000.00? "

Not me. Lots of 'better' things to buy for $4k.

I've tried to sell my 4005's over the years and I've found that there is never wide-spread interest. Yes, a couple of serious collectors come along, but they're just too much money for most.

There has been some increased romance about them over the last couple of years, and I attribute that mainly to folks here on the forum talking them up...

My $0.02!

Put me on the unsure list.

I'd probably take the plunge though for the chance to have a new, no issue warrantied one, over some so called vintage one with a questionable past.

I would pass. I like the 4005, but not enough to spend 4K on one.

I like my '74 just fine, I certainly couldn't justify the $$ for another. Even if I do eventually sell mine, that is a LOT of money to spend on a new one. I think i'd rather a vintage one.

I would pay it. If you want one your only alternative is to spend much more on a vintage one.

Pass. But I hope they reissue it for all you guys.

"The reason it was discontinued in the first place is they didn't sell well ..."

Things change. In late 1960 Gibson discontinued the Les Paul model because it didn't sell well. Flying V's and Explorers discontinued in '63 for the same reason.

Well all things considered, I would buy a new 4005 if RIC ever decided to put them back into production.

I already own a 4001 and a 4003 and two years ago I would have not considered myself a bass player. Now? Well things change...

The purchase of my 660 DCM was the first new guitar I've bought in fifteen years. The sound and quality is superb, and that's coming from a player and collector of vintage Rickenbackers.

I don't have a 4005 and I want one. I've played a '67 4005 formerly owned by Dave Pascoe and I've held John William's '65 4005 Blue Boy. There is something special about these instruments and they don't feel or sound like anything else I have played.

I'd happily sign up for a brand spanking new 4005 at $4K.

Of course, I'm still hoping that Graham Griffiths will present me with one from his collection for my birthday this year. Image

Does Graham do nice things like this for Aussies on their birthday Darren? Hmmm, I wonder what I should hope for? Image
