Ebay Anniversary Bass price, very sickening

How could anyone in their right mind charge $5800.00 for an anniversay bass. Does this bother any one here on the forum?

The last Anniversary bass on eBay went for about that much, not via a BIN, and from an int'l bidder. Ken is just trying to see if lightning will strike twice.

There is a point where this gets ridiculous....it started with the shadows and blackstars...now we're here. I am thoroughly disgusted. it's bad enough that the US currency is SO devalued this just makes it worse....the average Joe can no longer afford a nice bass

If somebody wants to pay that much, they will pay, and that'd be their choice. If nobody's ready to invest that kind of money in that particular bass, it just won't sell. I do not see a problem here, to be true...

Once the main production of basses comes on line the prices will drop. By how much, who knows...
Supply=demand.
If you bought to speculate, and of course quite a few did, you sell as early as possible.
There are still only a few examples out there.
The only way around this was if RIC shipped all 75 units at the same time.

Man, I sure wish the issue of speculation was black/white...
In this case, I see a bit of a situation where the playing field might not be level because some people knew where and how to get these ahead of the "average" bass player, whoever he/she might be.
On the other hand, commemorative instruments are aimed at a certain market of collectors of such esoteric stuff, so naturally the little guy has zero chance (and usually little interest!) of getting in on the ground floor in something like these.
So now we are in a situation of supply and demand, and the marketplace doing what RIC was loathe to do--charge what these are worth due to a rarity issue, ignoring intrinsic value of its worth as a bass, which is no different from any other Rick bass with the cap mod.
There never has been any question in my mind that the bass, of all four DCM models, would be the one to appreciate fastest, and I think future value increase of these basses will be rapid, probably surpassing those of any low-production bass from RIC.
Andrew, I don't foresee any sort of meaningful price drop. The numbers available, at 75, are simply too small a fraction of the demand, even now.
What my experience indicates is that prices may yo-yo a bit the first year or two, always staying higher than MSRP by a comfortable margin. I then see a steady rise fueled by the collecting side of the hobby. Demand will go up--way up. Supply remains constant. The "legend" is already being written.

I have a rare " Jeff Rath " modified FireGlo 4004 Cii about to show up on Ebay for $9,999.00 .Very limited with only a few of Mr Raths fingerprints still visible

My opinion is not appreciated by the seller. I just thought that this forum was for friendly, and fair, selling and trading of Rick's and Rick parts. It just seems that this particular sale is representative of serious price inflation to make a huge profit. I sold a C64 FG for the exact price I paid and it was sold with Pyramid flats on it. I just don't understand the greed. A hundred or two extra for a rare Rich, certainly, but come on!

Yea, us lefties never had a chance.LOL, If someone will pay that much for a DCM, more power to them. As much as I love Rics, $5500 would buy a lot of other things I need. (dont tell the wife, but I would spend the money for a motorcycle.) LOL
