Marred in a few ways, and not my favorite ebay vendor, but they are getting harder and harder to find. I am having a gas with mine, by the way.

more like a really lame ebay vendor ... every item they sell has errors in the description and is overpriced ... without exception ... did I mention that I don't like them?

Really lame is being much too nice. All of their auctions clearly violate eBay policy by stating that the item might not be available. I wonder whose palms they greased to be able to get away with this.

If I won an auction from them and they pulled that on me, I'd file a federal wire fraud suit, naming eBay too, and ask for a criminal investigation. But it's not going to happen b/c I'd rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick than deal with them.

Look at their feedback .... they have 55 negatives and 41 neutrals ...

Yes, these guys suck, but the opening price on the bass isn't THAT off considering the rarity. When was the last time you saw an S8 in natural?

Of course, if you actually won it at that price it would become "unavailable."

If anyone else was selling it ... there would be bids already ...

I haven't seen them list a Ric correctly yet and this in no exception: J-style pickups? More like the other way around, the 4000 was conceived and made before the jazz was. This is the first Ric I have seen them list with a decent opening bid price. (and may be the first one I see that sells, although it has been three days at this point and there are no bids, which has to be a reflection of the way they do business.

I agree with Bob, the seller's listing 'style' leaves a lot to be desired, usually resulting in ads rife with errors and misleading statements. Descriptions should accurately state all of an item's good points and bad points.

I'm tempted to bid but would feel uncomfortable leaving positive feedback if the auction concluded favorably!

and after reading the "fine print" associated with this item, I have two more complaints about dealing with this bidder:

1. The seller charges CA sales tax even if the seller is outside of CA; because this is c. 8%, that adds a good chunk extra to the purchase price ($88 to a $1100 guitar - ouch!).

2. All of the payment options are 'veiled', that is, there is no reference to a name/address/phone-number, one's money goes into the equivalent of a black hole where it may disappear from sight. At least with USPS money orders or cashier's checks there is a degree of traceability (more so if they are sent by Certified Mail). A fully above-board seller shouldn't limit the means of payment like that. (I had bid on an item a while back and failed to notice that the seller had specified 'credit card only'; I e-mailed the seller to request permission to retract my bid, as I don't use credit cards, and he replied that he was willing to make an exception and accept a money order, so long as I was able to get one out quickly, which I did, and everything worked out fine.)

They also have an 85 4001 for a ridiculous starting price again, with a set neck!

and still no bids on a ten day listing with only 4 days left.

I had to add to this post...I was going to bid on one of their auctions for a Spector bass, and I emailed them because I looked at their feedback and asked them if the item I am bidding on would actually be available! It took them 3 days to get back to me, by which time the auction had ended and the item went unsold. The item description read "Spector-Unknown". Lucky for me from the pictures I could tell what it was and what model it was, but they had NO clue what they had in their hands! I wouldn't bid on any of their auctions!

The problem is they DON'T have it in their hands. They are brokers for a bunch of music stores that can't or won't use ebay themselves. I think you saved yourself some grief.

Less than a day to go, and still no bids. I never noticed a BIN at $2999. Reminds me of a Steve Miller song...
