Oh yeah! Nice touch ending with "Shave and a Haircut". Can't stand his tone here, though.

Interesting comment about tone. I thought it was a little Geddyesque? Or is it the acoustic amp you don't like?

Geddy-esque. Meh.

Yeah, I admit he's a god, but he bothers me. Every time I hear him jam or solo it's the same licks over and over.

Yeah, but it's a cool lick. I would like to cop his harmonic stuff!

That's from the Jaco instructional video. The other guy is Jerry Jammott.

This was filmed after Jaco started going down hill and getting into drugs. I don't believe the bass he's playing is even his - it was already there for him to do the video IIRC.

I also meant Geddy-esque tonewise. Yuck.
The playing here is a little sloppy, but melodically and harmonically, it's quite complex and REALLY cool.
I think you're right Bill - Jaco's bass had already been stolen by this time. Or did he leave it in Central Park? I forget.

For Jaco it's very matter of fact playing, without the his usual emotion.
This is what's it's all about...

Love Birdland - and Jaco's tone on that one live. And I ain't a big jazz fan..... of the genre.

Nice! I think Jaco's best creative work was his time with Joni Mitchell. That is the one time I got to see Jaco, too, on the Shadow And Light tour.

Agreed!
He brought fretless bass to the attention of all the suburban 70's kids I hung around with...

+1 Jeff, Heijra is an incredible album all around, from Jaco as well as Joni.
