Question about Scatterwounds

Hello Folks:

I installed scatterwounds on both of my 360's (12 & 6). I noticed that one of the pickups is quite a bit hotter than the other three (I have not measured the output on a meter yet). The pickup that I installed in the bridge position of my 360/6 sounds almost like a Hi Gain. Is there typically that much difference, or is this a common phenomenon? Usually, all things being equal, neck pickups sound louder.

Jeffrey: There is a reasonably wide range in Kohm ratings with regard to the toaster pickup. This should not be nearly as great in the scatterwound series with the advent of computerized systems for winding. All of the scattrer wounds that I have owned or measured have been in the 7 range which is good seeing as they should be around 7.4 kohms.

Based on your subective experience with the bridge pickup, I would measure it and do let us know what you find.

Perhaps John Hall may chime in and give us his thoughts on this matter.

Is it possible that one of my Toasters is actually not a more recent scatterwound? Perhaps NOS from the 80's or 90's? I purchased them from North Coast Music and they both had the same product code on the wrappers.

Jeffrey: I would explore this possibility should you get very different kohm ratings between these pickups.
