Celestion Vintage 30 vs. Celestion G12H 30

It has become known on this forum that the Vintage 30 works well in a Traynor YCV40. I was wondering of the feasibility of installing a Celestion G12H 30 in a YCV40 instead. I hear the G12H 30 has a heavier sounding bottom, but the 30W power rating scares me, which is less than the YCV40 output rating of 40W. The 60W rating of the Vintage 30 gives a 50% cushion. Does anybody have any experience with the G12H 30 with amps beyond 30W of output power?

It seems that the Vintage 30 was designed for open backed combos, and the G12H 30 was designed for closed back cabs. Since 4 speakers are usually used in a cab, that gives a 120W rating for the quad, which is reasonable for a head up to 100W. Still, the G12H 30 would work in something like a Roland Blues Cube 30 or a Fender Blues Junior. My YCV40 might possibly fry it. I guess it might work if you always played clean.

The G12H was originally a speaker for bass, the new one is obviously a copy of the original. It is quite normal that it would have more bottom end, although I am not sure it would matter much that it can handle 55 Hz when the lowest E on a guitar is 82 Hz.
I have a Vintage 30 in an open back cabinet and I really hate it, it has way too much top end and no bottom in an open back cabinet. I don't like the clean sound. I don't like the distorted sound. I guess it is the Vintage 30 made in China, but most seem to be these days, and some people have told me they sound fine in a closed back cabinet and have lots of bass. I was actually thinking about exchanging it in my open-back cab for a G12H sometime.

Over four years for a reply, this must be a record!
That reminds me, I have some NOS G12H's in the attic somewhere.

Didn't really look at the date, I guess maybe then they weren't made in China.
But anyways I wanted to comment on them, maybe someone can tell me something. Are you serious about those G12Hs?

I'll have to have a rake around in the attic to see if they are still there, but I know that there were some the last time I looked (about 10 years ago).

Peter: This is one of the reasons why the forum changed software and servers last fall. It has allowed us to bring back many archives, as you have noted, even after 4 years.

I have found a pair of G12H 100w (not 30w) 4ohm NOS in the attic.

Of the speakers or of the attic?

it is obvious that Peter is asking about the attic!
Any ghosts in there?

This thread seems to be running parallel to the 'Earthquake' thread now. I haven't seen any ghosts in the attic but I have seen spirits in the understairs cupboard (usually in bottles

).

Ar, ar, ar!!!
While everyone's attention is on speakers, are old Jensen speakers of particular value today? Late 60s vintage out of an old Sears Silvertone bass cab.

My 76 Deluxe Reverb has an Altec 417-8H speaker and my Traynor YCV-20WR has a Celestion G-12M "Greenback". I've considered swapping the speakers or putting the Altec in the Traynor and then looking for another speaker for the SFDR. But then I wonder if the Altec would even fit in the Traynor.
