This comes from the most recent Rolling Stone, that Olivia Harrison has finally given the go-ahead after shopping around the Wilbury recordings that were owned by George. They will be reissued by Rhino with bonus tracks. According to the release, George had intended to reissue them before he died but there wasn't time. As it is, the two albums Vols. 1 & 3 will be reissued on June 12, 2007 with a 24 minute studio documentary and the various bonus tracks. I think that Jeff Lynne is also involved, in remastering some of the bonus tracks. This, I think is great news for a lot of people, and bad for those that paid through the nose for the out-of-print albums. Anyway, enjoy.

I shelled out money for the OOP albums on eBay in 2004, and I'm still elated with this news. It'll be nice to get fresh discs of this music, and the film documentary alone will be worth the new price. Every reissue associated with George (Dark Horse Box set, Bangladesh, etc.) has been great.

I always wondered why George was 'Nelson Willbury'. I would have thought that he'd choose the name "Carl" as he did in May of 1960 for the Scotland your with Johnny Gentle.

How come Tom is holding George's guitar?... at least it should be his guitar.

You know you've got something good going when the most expendable guy in the group is Bob Dylan. And speaking of Carl Perkins I've always thought that he would have made a much better Willbury than Dylan. Actually, I would have kicked out both Dylan and Lynn in favor of Perkins (RIP). Just MHO.

I thought Lynn was the Wilbury's roadie.

If nothing else, the Wilbury's were great because they got Orbison to do a last album...that guy was incredible, it's a shame he spent so many years singing at third rate venues...he was a real talent as both a singer, and writer...I would have loved to hear what music he would have made had he lived. I thought the whole Mystery Girl album was great, though, as many on here say, the production was questionable.

Tom has his own 'Gent... It's actually got Chet's signature on the guard (neither of George's did, although his Tennessean did)... Tom uses his on the 'Live at the Olympic' DVD on 'Like a Diamond' and maybe another song.

I love 'Mystery Girl' as well. 'You Got It' is fantastic.

Yeah Roy was one of the greatest voices in rock n roll. What control he had from the top to the bottom.
George was their best guitar player but Roy was definitly the best singing Wibury.

Mystery Girl is fantastic.
I loved that Dylan was in the Wilburys.
Think Lynn is the expendable.

Without Lynn, that fabulous 'Wilbury Sound' wouldn't have come to fruition.

Remember, his strength was/is as a studio wizard, and he developed his production chops listening to Beatles records.

No problem. I checked the Rhino website last night and it's a 2 CD/1 DVD pack for the deluxe edition with both albums, bonus tracks and a DVD that's all-region with their music videos. It's well worth the wait to have these albums done right.

Respectfully disagree on the Lynne sound. Predictable and overwhelming.

Those Lynne-style backing vocals...ugh. He has a knack for making his artists sound the same. I wish he'd put his tub of I Can't Believe It's Not ELO back in the fridge so his roommate can 'accidentally' throw it out.

If only he'd listened to those Beatles records a little closer! I don't hear anything in his style that resembles at all the work done by the producers and engineers at Abbey Road. Still, he's got a unique, instantly recognisable style, and that's more than you can say about most producers.

I guess it's easy for one to assume that Jeff Lynne is completely unsympathetic to the character and nuance of his clients' work, but I suppose the reality is that his clients must request that he work his 'strange magic' on their records. In which case, the judgment of some of our favorite artists must also be considered.

I don't mean to harsh on Jeff Lynne too much, though, but I think his production style, through its very uniqueness, suits his own work best. ELO made some pretty great records, and he obviously has a knack for picking out the hooks in a song.
