4001V63 vs 4001C64

I know I don't post often but I need a little help. Sorry.
I know the C64 replaced the V63. Does a V63 have the updated truss rods like the C64? Other than the upside down headstock and the mono output, are there other major differences to consider.

I did read this thread BTW. ../675/43565.html"#FFEECC">

The two are basically the same except the C64's neck is flatter and slightly wider than the V63. The V's horseshoe is hotter and the toaster is weaker on the V. The C's horseshoe(it has the cap)and toaster are more equal in output. The toaster has more output on the C than the V. The V's have differences depending on the year of manufacture. There's more I'm leaving out I know, but I hope this helps a little bit.

The one I'm considering is a 2001. I've heard late '90s have a fatter neck, which doesn't realy bother me.

I run 45 to 100 DR Highbeams on my 4003. I assume they would be fine for a 4001V63.

I thought the newer toasters were weaker than the older ones?

No, not on my C64. The toaster on my V63 is weaker then the C64. Actually the pick ups on the C are better balanced output wise. The V's horseshoe is far hotter than it's toaster. And yes, DR Highbeams will work fine on a V63. Although I prefer the Sunbeams or the nickel Lo-Riders for RW's.

Origional toasters were anywhere from 5.8k or so to 7.4k. There was a period they were about 10-12k, and are now again 7.4k. I am not sure of the time line. Where's Sergio when you need him?! :D

The older toaster I just sold on ebay was a 11K. Unfortunately, I have no idea what year it was from.

Thank you for the info.

Considering what the prices the V63's have been going for on ebay the past couple of weeks, I'm going for a C64 instead. They're rare too, but they're not much more.

most toasters are wound to 7.4k ohms ... they made some in the 80s that were overwound ...

Sérgio is right here. Er... "Hotter pickups do not live by overwound coils alone." Image
