Saw Sonny and Cher at the Pasadena Civic in the 60's..he was wearing that same ratty fur vest,,,Cher looked hot!

Perhaps a little bit of hyperbole regarding the chart success too. I guess they may have had a few top 10 hits, but I don't think any of their songs rivaled "I Got You Babe."

Funny, I was surfing the tv last night and came across the "Top of The Pops" on VH-1 Classic they played a Sonny & Cher clip from 1965 "I Got You Babe" Cher looked great Sonny looked silly

That turned into their routine on their very popular TV show...he played the clown..she sang great and looked hot..they say he really knew his way around the recording studio though...their 1st 45 was done under the name Cesar and Cleo...

When Sonny passed away I read an obit that had quotes of reviews of their work back in the day. One of them called S&C "fake hippies."

"Salvatore "Sonny" Bono was a former production assistant for Phil Spector, and Cherilyn LaPier had been a session singer. The pair met in the 60s while Cher was performing back-up vocals on The Ronettes' Be My Baby, and they made an appealingly odd couple in their tight striped bell bottom trousers and Afghan jackets. The image was exactly right for the time though, and when they crooned I Got You Babe into each other's eyes in 1965 they hogged the US and UK Number One spots for most of August."

Sonny may not have been a druggie, but he certainly was a drinker:
