The new issue (30, May / June 2007) has both Bruce Foxton and Chris Squire interviews where they talk Rics. Bruce has a black one - heavily modded - on the front cover. My mate said "What's Cliff Richard doing on the front of a bass mag?"

ROFL !! The Halo's a lovely touch too!
The CS interview was interesting, even though it read a little disjointed. It was news to me that he hadn't used his 4001S much on The Yes Album, preferring a regular triangle inlay 4001 instead. Anyone else already know this ?

Squire apparently had a 4001 with the wide inlays, and there are many pictures of him playing it during the Peter Banks era. I have always thought it was a 21 fretter he was using because there is one part of "The Fish" that you cannot reach with a standard 20 fret Rick. I've always thought that that growly bottom string on "Yours is no Disgrace" sounded a little bit different in character than his famous horseshoe bass. And if that other bass was 21 fret, then it likely didn't have a horsey for the bridge pickup. My 2 cents...

I'm pretty sure the photo of Chris inside TYA has him playing a MG 4001 with triangle inlays. This same bass also appears in early film clips on the YesYears video. I remember reading that his 4001S may have been getting a headstock or neck repair at the time.
