The last time I played a Hagstrom 8-string was for an album track 35 years ago, but it sounded good and had a wickedly fast, short-scale neck. So, I've casually kept one eye open for one that might tempt me for quite a while. A little late night buy-it-now surfing on the bay produced a mint one. No dings, no rusted hardware, no dull corroded tuners, all original parts. Built somewhere in the 1967-1969 period and all it needs is the Zymol treatment! It wasn't cheap, but I think you would have to look in a museum to find a better example.

Here is the 1972 album cut where you can hear it pretty well (it was a folk-opera/concept album with all the songs connected, so the beginning and end are chopped where the previous and next songs start/end).

Nice find. I had my hands on one like that at Elderly a couple of years ago but it was not in as pristine shape as yours.

Todd,

That was a great and unbelievable find. I love the sound those basses produce. BTW that was a great song you recorded in '72. Well done.
