The Plimsouls

Not sure if anyone has mentioned them in here before. I was watching Valley Girl this weekend. Remember that movie? The Plimsouls are in the movie. They are playing a punk club in LA. The actual club where they filmed was called The Central until celebrities got ahold of it and named it The Viper Room. I've never been, but heard it is a celeb hang-out place. Anyway, The Plimsouls use Ric guitars and during the set for Million Miles Away they use one. It might be a 12-string.

Peter Case used a 80's Fireglo 360/12 0S. The guitar has 24 frets and hi-gains. On the 1998 Plimsouls' release, "Kool Trash". There is a picture of lead guitarist, Eddie Munoz with a white 360/12. The 12 string has chrome hardware with a black name plate and black pickguards. Also a 24 fret model with hi-gains.

My friend (Randy Weeks) just did a gig with Peter Case. I didn't go (good friend that I am), and I don't know if it was an accoustic or electric affair. I wonder if Mr. Case still pulls out his Rickenbacker from time to time.

That's one of my all time favorite movies, if only because I was a teen when it was released. The scene with the Plimsouls is, of course, my favorite part of the movie. A good soundtrack, too!

The Plimsouls were 10 times better live than on their records. Don't know why they couldn't get their "real" sound captured on tape!

Any one hear fans of the Nerves? That was Peter Case's first band. They wrote and recorded "Hangin' On The Telephone", which Blondie covered. They are a great power pop band, with only a 7" released( and a live bootleg you can sometimes find).

The Nerves, a must have jangle band!

The Nerves were practically a supergroup, since the third member (besides Case and the guy who wrote "Hangin' On The Telephone" was Paul Collins (of the Paul Collins Beat and "Rock & Roll Girl" fame). I'm pretty sure the 4-song 7" was reissued recently (probably on CD), but I have an original copy ...

Peter Case was the bass player while he was in The Nerves.

Peter played a Rickenbacker 4005.

His website shows photos of all the albums he has completed since The Nerves.

There is a Nerves album review photo showing him with the 4005.

"When You Find Out" by the Nerves is just a great, great song. Anyone know if there's a compialtion CD of their stuff? Jack Lee was the third guy in the band...

Just bringing this back to the top because the Plimsouls' live album "One Night In America" was just rereleased again a couple weeks ago. This is a Must have" for any real fan.

You can order it at:

www.oglio.com

And yeah, the live recording really captures the "kool trash" energy aspect of the band that was only hinted at on the studio albums. The live one is my fave, but they're all cool in my book.

Also really like my old "The Beat" (Paul Collins) LP too, but I've never heard the Nerves.

Fwiw, a few years ago Eddie told me his Ric 360/12 was stolen. And the last time I talked with Peter I can't remember what he said about his OS 12 - but I think he said he still has it and only plays it once in a while now.

He's mostly into his solo acoustic stuff these days but the recent 'souls gigs have been well received. And he says he hopes to expand the Plimsouls "reunion" gigs a bit to tour the mid and eastern States next year.

I sure hope it happens.

Peter gets his Rick 12 back, finally after 22 years. Wild world, folks.

Yeah, I just read that story (and posted on there too).

So what IS the story? Getting it back after 22 years gone is a freakin' miracle!!

Now, what about finding Eddie's white Ric? ;-)
