Not sure that the colour upgrade had a $1000 price tag.

Wow. That's a serious price tag RIC had for a custom color!

I think the reason for it having a split pickguard is that its a 4003. Probably a 1980 or so. Wavy Grovers failed and were replaced. TRC says 4003(hard to see, but that last number looks too fat to be a 1!) Tailpiece has two extra screws.

Jeff, I zoomed the TRC pic and I think it says 4003 also.

It's just begging for a 5th string!

I don't convert 70s 4001 basses ... they may be able to hold up ... but who knows ...

I just love it's tailpiece, but would it be sold separately?

The seller has added this:

Sorry typo on the up charge for this bass being painted white was $100 not $1,000.
I have been corrected to the age of my bass. 1980 is the year these were on the market.

so the question is ... is it a 4001 or a 4003?

2 extra bridge screws and 2-piece 'guard says 4003 to me.

If it has a split guard, it would be a 4003. The 1980 4003s had the old style rods at the body end.
