I thought I had been talking about this, but can't find it in a search so I'll start a new one. I bought one of these from a store in Texas. I had to wait a week to finish paying it off(deal with the store) and a salesman sold it out from under me, and they were backordered from Dean. Dean was waiting for the shipment of stands before shipping but we talked them into shipping without the stand.

I got the bass and there were no electronics in it! The web page still reflects a preamp so the dealer gave me a direct number to a rep at Dean. The 500 dollar price(old price was around 900 bucks, which is close to the nearest competitor's price) is a reduction as they couldn't get the preamp to work and are now selling it without the preamp at the reduced price.

They fixed the web page and are willing to accept a return, but I like the bass! THe fellow who helped bring the Pace to market left Dean, and is now offering to upgrade the Pace for about 300 bucks.

I'm thinking we(the royal we) could maybe figure this out ourselves. I will be needing Dane's advice on different avenues to pursue locally, as he is "wired" for that sort of thing!

Well, there may not be much to do. I emailed Bob Gollihur,(the upright guy!) and he has an external that I will probably get on the 15th. It;s either his KK or a Fishman. Even though I have the battery comps and all, I would still have to find a model that fits the cavity, and figure out what to do about the controls. I may still need some help getting the intonation, string height set, as there is NO manual on thei model. It has a 6 inch radius neck profile (35 inch scale), so it's much like an early Fender. It is not possible to bow this like most uprights, but that is what made it attractive to me. I don't have to learn another "scale"!

I don't like the 2 band active electronics ... but the 3 band active electronics in the Rhapsody 5, 8 and 12 string models is nice ...

the low end Dean basses aren't too hot but their more expensive models are nice ...

Ok, this is an old thread, but I got my stand, and started playing melodies today. This bass does not need a preamp, and I ordered some LaBella tapewounds yesterday. With the steel strings, it is a little nasal. My first attempt was All My Lovin. Not too bad! My ear is improving after just 30 minutes...... THe other issue is, I bought a trombone book for the melodies. It didn't dawn on me at the time, but it is a Bb instrument. Everything has flats!!! I need to either learn to transpose treble on the fly, or find sheet music for a bass instrument that is not a Bb or Eb instrument!!

Thanks John, but I'm not lookin to learn the bass line, I'm playin the melody!!

PS- I hate tab! Never could get comfortable with it. Notes are easier for me.
