It was pleasant to hear that interview. I believe it was conducted by Jann Werner of Rolling Stone. I remember reading this interview in 1970 or something.

Thanks for posting this interview! I'd only heard shorts form it, and it is great to hear Lennon boast about how far and above The Beatles were to any other band! Loved his comment about " Mick, and all the fag dancing."

That was a great interview. That's why John was the best in my books. He was so frigging honest...even to a fault. I can't dispute anything he said either. It was straight to the point and truthful as far as I am concerned.

Seems to me Lennon also commented on the Stones in some of his last interviews, saying he didn't care how long the Stones carried on. 27 years down the road, I have to say if it was the difference between the Beatles breaking up while they were still young, or slinking around stage like the Stones have done the past ten years, the former is far superior.

I agree Glenn. The Beatles went out on top. That's a classy way to leave any field of endeavor.

Lennon should have been more careful making fun of Mick's dancing. Not only would the PC police be all over him, but did you see the boys "dancing" during the club scene in a "Hard Days Night"?

How do guys with no rhythm make such great music?

Well...if I were a Beatle or a Stone, I think I would still prefer to make records than retire to the golf course.

I just rented US vs John Lennon. It was pretty good. But in a way it was like he was someone else in that film.
Listening to only his voice talking about the old days is just so very strange.

There were no PC police 37 years ago. I've often thought Jagger's prancing about was a detriment to the band also.

There were always PC police, though the standards have changed. The Stones and the Knack were ridiculed by women's groups in the 70s.

Once Wood joined the band, it was just a corporate exercise, with the gay theatrics no less calculated than Madonna kissing Britney. Fortunately for Mick, Lennon didn't say as much, though of course in his diaries he referred to him as "Mick Faggot."

The disco trax were the musical equivalent of the same thing. Jagger was hanging out at Studio 54. No wonder the Sex Pistols decried the Stones as non-rocking pop opportunists.

I don't mind their disco period, although it felt alarming at to me the time. Today I turn up the radio when I hear "Miss You" and I turn and run when I hear "Fly Robin Fly."
