"Are the early 90's British built ac-30's considered a good amp?"
In the general opinions I've heard, as well as my own experiences, they're not good. They're great!

Any thoughts on the New Brian May AC-30 with no tone controls, only volume?

I've got an AC30CCH and an AC30CC2 (besides my trusty '65 AC30 Super Reverb Twin), and I can't imagine spending a lot more money to give up the controls on the Brian May model.

Hey Jerry, if you want to come up to Orange County and try out this 1995 AC30TBX Limited Edition sometime, let me know.

Hey Jerry,
Have had a a few of the UK built AC-15 TBX models.
Likes: Sound is very creamy ..nice chime that swells into sweet overdrive (get the blue bulldog speakers)
Classic look..get a chrome stand
What I don't like: Tubes cannot be changed quickly..partial dismantel is needed so better bring a backup.
Runs hot
Tore one apart and found (imo) not the best in build quality or components given the cost.
Still....nothing else is quite the same,,so get one w/the blues and retube it and put it on a chrome stand...you WILL like it!

I should have got a purple one when I got my AC30 in 1993 but I needed an amp and didn't want to wait. It would have cost the same back then. Now that mine has been in constant use since '93, the black tolex is getting ragged in some places, so when I need to recover it, its easy enough to just choose a purple color! Its been completely reliable since '93 and sounds great with the exception of the original GZ34 rectifier tube going south and blowing a fuse a year ago, and the speakers having a cone cry problem. I sent the speakers to Ted Weber for a light doping and te cone cry is gone and I put a NOS Amperex GZ34 in and replaced the fuse and no more problems. Sound has always been fantastic too. Good amps.....

Jerry, yes it was made in England:
It has the blue speakers, too. Greg, were the ones in yours the blue ones?

Yah Gary, mine are the Celestion Blues. They started cone crying after I had the amp about a year, and it took me only 10 years to get them lightly doped to cure the problem! I move fast don't I?!

The amp was in constant use and I couldn't take the time for it to be down at the time. Mine is actually a TB model, but I believe the store must have ordered it as a TB and then stuck the speakers in aftermarket and saved a couple bucks maybe....
