How does this work? I am missing my 5 string but would never give up the sound I'm getting out of my c64S. Don't want to lose the horseshoes either..

Would somebody fill me in on the details?

I would not convert a v63 or c64 bass 4-2-5 ... a generic 4003 or 4004 bass makes a good 4-2-5 bass ...

to get some ideas check out my web site ...

The 4 string 4004 makes a real nice 5 string bass ... the neck is really nice ... the pickups allow a 2 3/8" spacing ... the 4003 can be converted to a 5 string bass but it is more work and the string spacing ends up more like 2 1/4" ...

The 4004 can also have 2 1/2" spacing with a 15.8mm space between the strings using a Schaller 496 bridge. This is a very generous and comfortable spacing that you will never get on a 4003 conversion. It does take the strings to the limits of the fretboard, but RIC wouldn't have made the board that wide if the pickups couldn't handle it. I have two 4004 conversions and they are the best basses I have ever owned, very versatile when dialed in and setup right.
