sorry if this has been posted before. who makes the most secure guitar stand?

Hercules make a great stand that has a nice locking mechanism for the neck, they also have stain proof padding. They make singles, doubles and triple stands, and also wall hangers.

I recommend the On Stage Pro Flip-It A-Frame guitar stand, model GS7465B. It'll only set you back about 30 bucks at your local GC. Scroll down the page to see it here:

These stands are bottom-heavy with a LOW center of gravity, plus the neck support has a locking mechanism. The thing is like a Weeble. It won't fall down!

both look like sturdy stands. i think a good stand is added insurance. i have used my case before but it takes up a lot of space. thanks for the come back.

Me too! I ONLY use the GS7465B. There is nothing on the planet in this format and price range that I have ever found to be more stable or secure. I trust even the pricey over-$7500 basses to these, no sweat

I use those stands too, and they are very good. Just be careful that the plastic ends don't come off of the ends at the top (ie. horseshoe shape where the neck rests). That happened to me once, and there is sharp metal underneath that scratched a bass neck.

Which stands Dean, the Hercules or the On-Stage?

Ugh... this thread reminded of last night. Our guitar players Les Paul Standard fell out of its stand just before rehearsal. It's a Gibson, I think you can guess the rest...

Do tell Tom...has it been decapitated?

Glad my bro's Les Paul Custom rests on one of these On-Stage stands when its not in use. I'm too accident prone to trust a cheapie stand.

I've said this before...I used to use the cheapie stands and I'd leave my bass plugged in. More than once I tripped over my cord, causing my white 4001 (see link below!)

to faceplant on the floor. Luckily it fell on a carpeted floor and only suffered a couple gouges to the pickguard.

IMHO, these instruments are far too nice to be trusted to some top-heavy, flimsy, rickety, cheesy $9.99 guitar stand. ESPECIALLY when you've got a clod like me in the room!

I just got one of the Hercules stands where the bass hangs from the headpiece and rests against a rubber support.

I don't like to speak bad of other peoples purchases, but I'd be a little nervous too. Those kinda look top-heavy and the base doesn't look all that stable.

I didn't have the heart to look at it, but yeah, I guess it's hanging on by a thread. It happened 5 minutes before I walked in the door. I blame it all on the 15 minute train I got stuck at while driving over there. If I'd been there 15 minutes sooner, it may have never happened. Or I at least could have yelled HEY! as it was going down.

I've been using Ultimate Genesis stands for about 6 years now. I like em. They fold up really small.

Scott, that is the stand I use - I have 2 of them. They are very stable - the tripod splays out enough to make a good platform. I have them on deeper pile carpeting in the practice room and they stay put. As for hanging by the neck, instruments at the stores do that, and better yet, all the highly valuable instruments in the RIC factory museum room hang by the neck also - about half are the Hurcules wall mount type grabber like the head on yours, Scott.
