Scratch X part 2

Well..........I was so impressed by the Scratch X first time round, I thought I'd have another go. This time it was my '66 4005. What this highlighted was the Bantar was in good condition, just not very clean. The 4005 was a little dirty - but has more wear. The results are still great. It still has the mojo because of the wear, but it shines and has a real depth to the finish now..................

Looks good.

What are you doing in the areas where it is just wood (finish worn off) - are you just waxing that part too, or waxing around it?

Very cool, Graham. I'm tempted to break my stuff out again seeing these results, LOL...it looks great.

I waxed all over (steady..........not that sort of waxing!!) and it didn't seem to have much effect on the bare wood areas. I thought it would do no harm?

I wouldn't use Zymol or Scratch-X on bare wood, Graham...they both have fillers and mild abrasives that will dry into powder and could clog the wood's pores. Bare wood wants "feeding"; Butcher's wax or Santa Cruz guitar wax works best on this. There are also paste leather waxes (like colorless paste shoe polish) that are good on bare wood.

Paul W. doesn't recommend using it(Zymol) on bare wood. At least I assume you are using Zymol too, as Scratch-X isn't a wax.

Thanks Paul.

Yes Charly - Paul knows I was using Zymol. Sorry I should have made that clear. I scratch X'd first and then Zymol'd.

The phillips type on the E-string gives more clarity in the sound, I have heard! Image
