Geddy Lee transcription
I would have posted this sooner but my au pair has started "hiding" my mail in a new place.

That's a 74/75 going by the neck pickup spacing.

Why not a late '73, Mark?

No checkered binding, either!
The photo's from right about the time of the 'Farewell to Kings' album is my guess.

Late '73s had no checkers.

He bought his first Ric with advance money for Fly By Night. That was what, 1975?
Looks like the CoS or 2112 tour. He had the Badass by the time of Farewell.
From the Farewell tour book:

Inside the sleeve of the Farewell To Kings LP was the first time I saw the photo of the Ric with a Badass bridge. It was just like the photo above. I guess later he went with the black surround for the bridge.

Jeff, I based my guess on the fact that I had heard the 74/75 before, never heard of him owning any 73's, that's all.

it looks to me like the bass in the first pic has full width inlays. that would make it late '73 right?

He bought that bass before "Fly By Night". It was the 30th of July, 1974. Neil had just joined, the band had got an advance from the record company and they needed new equipment for the tour.
Also, the black surrounding with the badass is on his other JG4001, the one which has 1" spacing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I kinda recall the inside sleeve of "Caress of Steel" having a picture of Geddy playing a checkered binding 4001 with full-width inlays.

Here's all the pics from CoS:

I also checked out from my vinyl and it looks like it's the same bass discussed earlier in this thread.
