Recording this on VH1 Classic right now....contains LOTS of Gabriel-era footage and Rutherford playing a SWEET fireglo Rose Morris, as well as his doublenecks.

I missed it, but set the DVR for the next showing of it. I am watching their presentation of the '76 tour with Collins on lead vox right now.

Just makes me yearn for some Gabriel footage though...Phil belongs behind the drums - sorry.

Can't wait for the the special!

The first hour I really enjoyed, the second hour was more of the "Invisible Touch" Genesis....I can do without that!!

There's some pretty good footage of Gabriel era Genesis on the DVD set called "Genesis - The Gabriel Era". Some of you may have already seen the footage - it's stuff from those early telecasts from RAI. You can find the DVD on Amazon.

I haven't seen that, thanks for the tip! I'd love to see a Lamb concert released someday...

I thought Collins was good as a frontman...to a point. Did anyone catch who was on drums? The MAN himself, Bill Bruford. This was before Chester Thompson. The import version of "Three Sides Live" has a forth side live and it's a bunch of stuff with Bruford. The US release of this album had assorted B-sides and other sort-of-unreleased stuff.

Only It/Watcher has Bill on drums. The other two songs on side 4 of 3SL feature Chester. Cinema Show on Seconds Out also has Bill drumming.

I saw Bill play with Genesis twice, on two consecutive nights for the TOTT tour in Cleveburg. I even have a recording of the concert from the second show!

The double drum solos between Phil and Bill were great.

genesis in the seventies = awesome!
genesis in the eighties and beyond = not so much

I'm not what you would call a genesis fan...I've only ever heard the stuff they play on the radio from the Phil Collins genesis. The Peter Gabriel stuff is awesome from what I've seen on this show...I'll have to check out some of their albums.

Loved the show. Was a huge fan in the very early 70s. Probably the best show I ever saw!

I loved Phil as a frontman when they were playing their best material (e.g. on Seconds Out), although I actually came to Genesis via And Then There Were Three, so for me Phil WAS the frontman, and it took me a while to get used to the whole Gabriel-era band (which I now love, BTW). For me it's only when their material started to suffer, probably after Mama, that it went a bit pear-shaped.

huge early genesis fan-saw them live drury lane theater london jan 1973,the only time i saw the "original" line-up with pete and steve. would have loved to have seen lamb live. i have liked their post-gabriel/hackett material as well, and think then there were 3 was underated. i would have expected the vh1 show to feature stuff like "illegal alien" as their best material, tho.
