Hey gang. I was rehearsing some tunes the other day with a bandmate and noticed something surprising.

Here's the situation: I was on the Rick 12 going through ROS with neck pu thru a Fender Princeton Chorus, and the bridge pu thru a Roland JC77. The other guitarist was playing a nice Schecter through a Fender Deluxe. We had a drum machine going through some heavy duty reference monitors.

First I was playing the '90 370/12SPC (with original toasters, I believe) and was getting some killer jangle without even using any compression.

After a few songs, I switched to the J Dog Rick ('00 330/12 with new scatterwound toasters) and the sound got real thin. So I have some questions for the experts here:

Was it the type of toaster? the absence of the third pickup?

Also, I noticed with the 370, my neck tone was really really dull, even though when blended the guitar sounded great.

Did you have all pickups on in both cases? Does either guitar have the 0.0047 microfarad cap installed? Pickup heights/string heights the same?

It's also possible you're looking at a difference between 250k and 330k pots.

Does the '90 370 have the 12k toasters also? Could be a possibility.

Yes, there could be a myriad of reasons for the differences in tone - 12k vs. 7.4k pickups, the .0047 microfarad cap, 250k vs. 330k pots, different brand or gauge strings, pickup height differences, different bridge or tailpiece, etc.

Steve, you are welcome to email me an offer. I may soon be installing a very rare compressor which of course will significantly raise its value.
