Rickenfakers used on major recordings.

I guess it was just a matter of time before I posted a message about this but there are instances of Rickenfaker basses used on albums.
Such is the case of Hot Choclate who's bassplayer Tony Wislon used a white John Birch to good effect even slapping on it.

Bruce Foxton from the Jam used a Jetglo Ibanez Rickenfaker on the Jam's first album quickly replacing it with a genuine 4001 when the band got their first advance. But his Ibanez still was used as a back up. You can see it standing next to his amp in this clip.

And then there's Peter Hook clanging away on a Hondo Rickenfaker on the Joy Division's first album before ditching it in favor of a Yamaha BB series bass.

Lemmy used one for a few decades.

Peter Hook has also mentioned use of a Rickenfaker in the past.

Did Lemmy really use a fake? I've seen the one without a RIC TRC in official RIC photos.

Yes, the MG looking one is a faker. Probably an Ibanez. I believe this is it:

I don't think he ever had a fake Ric,in most interviews he said that when he auditioned for Hawkwind the previous bassist had left his Ric bass with the rest of the band gear.

If it's the maple-necked one I don't think it has ever been confirmed either way; Lemmy seems convinced it's genuine, and just because the board isn't original doesn't mean it's definitely a fake. Look at LB121 that I missed out on.

I believe John Hall confirmed it a while back.

I read an interview with Lemmy and he once said he played a ric that he purchased and it had fell off the back of a lorry - had the colour stipped....maybe I was just reading it in a studio we used that Hawkwind also used (and one of the ex guitarists came in - smoked too much funny stuff) and thus I'm talking nonsense :p

Lemmy may be prone to playing many basses ... even this one:

I don't know if this one fell off the back of a lorry, but it looks a bit like it has ...

I've never seen a pic of him playing that in concert. I think it would make him look like a ZZ Top sideshow if he used that. How could you take him seriously? He would look like a caricature of himself.

Yea I can't picture Lemmy actually using that goofy thing. After all, he has stated that the main reason he uses Ricks is because he loves how they look.

Maybe to keep Phil company?

Nice find!
I'm glad I didn't get my Rick via the dark side.

There is a picture of Dick Dale with the same guitar. It should appeal to lots of 12 year olds. I don't get it. Then again, besides the Mockingbird, I didn't like the BC Rich designs either.
