Me either, but we've seen others from that batch. My question: why the glasses? Were they actually sunglasses?

I think I read somewhere that they had a photo shoot set up by some sort of a spectacle company, just for publicity. Other pictures from the session exist, and two can be seen on pages 206 and 207 of The Beatles Anthology.
And yes, this was right around the time of Revolver.

Might even be at the "Rubber soul" sessions, according to the Beatles Gear book he not only used his ricky as his main studio bass (because it "Stayed in tune better") but he also took it with him on tour as a back up for his Hofner.

Supposedly, the photo was from the Paperback Writer sessions. I remember it from a Beatle book and that was the caption.

I have seem photos of Paul wearing glasses before, and not the one from "AHDN," when he's in disguise. They were the same horn-rimmed variety that he has on in this photo. There seems to be some tint to them, so they might have been sunglasses.

I think those frames are called "Alger" and can occasionally be purchased through this site, when they're in stock. They have lots of good specific information about John's many glasses, too:
