I wonder if Rick James used a Rickenbacker bass to record the famous basslines to "Super Freak?" Does anyone know?

Didja know he was in a band with Neil Young long before Buffalo Springfield? That always was hard for me to picture, but it's true.

He was also in a band up in Canada called the Mynah Birds, with John Kay in his pre-Steppenwolf days.

Actually, that was the one with Neil Young. Not John Kay, but two other members of the future Steppenwolf...

Oh, that's right, I kind of forgot that Nick St. Nicolas and Goldy McJohn (aka John Goadsby) were in the band and not John Kay. I must have confused them with Sparrow for some reason. You might remember several years ago when VH1 did a Behind The Music on Steppenwolf, they actually interviewed Rick James.
