the price on that bass was a temporary lapse in ebay insanity ...

In some ways it describes eBay insanity in stark detail...

Didn't some swamp creature 4001 from the mid 70's with rust all over every piece of chrome recently sell for over $1700? That was insanity too...

ya ... why to people pay so much for rusty dinged 70s basses when they can get a new 4003 for $1200?

ebay is insane ... if you ask an unreasonable price it seems there will be someone out there who will pay it ...

And a some people buy and sell a lot of basses and each transaction the bass gets a $100 increase in price ...

in my mind you should be able to get nice used Ric basses that are actually less than the new price of a new 4003 bass ...

Many dealers sell at 30% off list which would be - $1259.30, but you gotta order and wait.

****! Only reason she went that low was because I was asleep at the wheel.

Good deal on a nice bass.

I fear the Rick deals are disappearing Mike. Just last year I could order 4004's for $1175. Bought a Trans Red this year, $1500.

Hmmm, I guess I need to do some looking then.
Lowest I could find is $1399 at MF...

Today the online dealers seem to be selling the 4003 in the $1300 to $1400 range ...

but still how does a beat up rusted late 70s 4001 go for more than a new 4003?

the demand is going up and the supply is going down ...

I will stand pat with mine and only buy more when a good deal comes along ...

I'm not arguing your point, Jeff, I agree... Just been thinking of maybe buying a new 4003..

I couldn't justify spending that much on a beat up rusted late 70s 4001, though.

I see a lot of you have what I'd someday like to have, early 70s with checkerboard, etc...but it's not likely I could afford one of those. I can look though!

Mike, I stand corrected - The online guys are definitely at $1399-1429. Not sure about friends like Chris Clayton and Mike Parks though.

Sorry for starting trouble. Image
