I've got a fireglow C64.....I was wondering, how does youre C64's play? It seems like my V62 Hofner plays better....I have the bridge all the way down but, the strings are still high off of the neck....I was curious on how your guy's play before I have it set up at a local gutiar shop.
Thanks

Is there upbow on the neck? Fret at the first and last frets and the string should just touch all frets evenly, no gaps. Bet you need to adjust the truss rods.

I lowered my bridge all the way down and the action is still a tad bit higher than my V62 Hofner but it's perfectly acceptable. I may one day have it re-set up but I'm in no hurry to have it done. It plays great!
I did notice that the pups on my Hofner are hotter than the Rics pups.
Have it checked out by a good guitar guy/shop.

Its all in the setup. If your bridge is all the way down and your action is still high, it sounds like your truss rods need to be tightened. My C64S is set up with nice low action as are all of my Ricks. If you don't feel comfortable setting it up yourself, then take it to a GOOD guitar tech. You might even want to bring in your Hofner as an example of how you'd like it set up.

perhaps a touch higher than I'd like and the bridge is quite low, but not so bad I can't just treat it as a normal variant on string height.

The action on my C64 is quite nice, and it plays and sounds great. That bass just needs a good set-up and it should be good to go.

The action on mine is pretty low after haveing it set up by, Chris Clayton at P O T R, I might want it set alittle lower, and that might require shaveing the nut alittle , the nut on these basses give you a high action, and depending on how low to the neck you like your strings to lie you may have to have the nut shaved down some, other than that my C64 plays like a dream and has become my favorite bass period.

Hey there - first time poster, long time lurker.

Jon, my '06 C64 plays like butter. Nice action and set up with a set of Thomastik-Infeld JF344s. I did have a very slight bow to the lower portion of the neck after the seasonal change, but a tweak of the rods took care of business. Sounds like it's all you need as well.
