Peter, I've been trying to learn more about Faron's Flamingos and I understand you wrote an article about them. Has the original link been moved? Links to it from the search of this site are giving me the old "404".

They appear to have been a great act.

During that time, the most notable Faron’s Flamingos line-up was Nicky Crouch and Paddy Chambers either side of Faron backed up by Trevor Morais on the drums. In my opinion Trevor Morais was arguably the best technical drummer of his type around on Merseyside at the time. For many years during 70s and 80s he backed Elkie Brooks live on stage when she was touring.

The thing I remember about Faron’s Flamingos performances was the high energy level they played at. Faron (in particular) really gave the audience their money’s worth with his colourful and dominating stage presence – he could be absolutely exhausting to watch – sweat pouring off him.

I seem to recall they took the flamingo name from a highly colourful Hawaii-type shirt that back then was locally referred to as a flamingo shirt that Faron was particularly fond of wearing. Nothing to do with flamingo birds, more to do with the dance and associated Latin influences.

Faron’s Flamingos (more than any other Liverpool group) suffered because of the apparent “Oh! No! Not another Liverpool group” London perceived bias at the time. Read Bill Harry’s account of “Did London Sabotage The Mersey Sound?” in which Faron’s Flamingo gets a prominent mention.

As per usual, Faron is sweating like the proverbial pig and bouncing round like ‘The Panda Footed Prince of Prance’ as Cavern DJ, Bob Wooler used to call him. Also, nice to hear again some of the drumming tricks that Trevor Morais could get up to.

YouTube clip part of a Associated Rediffusion Television (a UK commercial broadcasting company) commissioned documentary on the then burgeoning Merseybeat scene called ‘Beat City’. Which was eventually written and presented by the rather plumy voiced Daniel Farson one hears, a well known at the time London based investigative reporter.
