hello,

i just got my first ric and i love it, i'm already thinking of which one i want next. my question is in regards to the body. it appears as a 615 in all respects except for where the accent vib sits, there's no "cut out" beneath the vibrato. all the examples i've see have this "cut out". did they make 615's with out the cut out.

thanks,

Pictures? And how do you know it's a 615?

Only the earliest 600 series had the cut out. '61 or so. How about a pic or two?

i used the resource on the rickenbacker site filling out all the info requested to decern the model. i don't have a camera but i'll try to get a friend to take a pic.

does it sound wrong though?

thanks for the welcome!

(Edit) i just read the last post, so the later ones were flat?

The vast majority of 615s were flat, Louis. Did you find a picture that looks EXACTLY like your guitar (except, perhaps for color?).

Is your guitar bound? What do the fret markers look like? Are they dots or bigger triangles?

That would be a good start.

Louis, welcome to the Forum! Another good resource is Björn's Models page:

http://www.rickbeat.com/modelslibrary/models.htm

Scroll down to "615" and see whether yours looks like it.

The "Cutout" as you call it, is called the "tailpiece bevel"....

is there a thread or site that gives you the steps for a complete set up for ric's?

thanks again for the model info!

A setup includes adjusting truss rods, setting the bridge height and adjusting intonation. Lots of information on these subject can be found in this forum's archives (use the search feature) and in the RIC owner's manual, available online at the RIC website under the 'Service' tab (if you don't have a hard copy).
