Curious to see what the final price on this one will be! Perry Cox never ceases to amaze me with the material he keeps coming up with! He sold an original US numbered version that once belonged to the head of Queens Litho in NY (where the majority of all of Capitol's covers were printed on the East Coast) several months back. It was number #000000001!!!!!!!! I believe it went for over $12,500. The condition was in VG+. The low numbered UK versions are much rarer (as most went the Beatles inner circle of friends & associates) as reflected in the current on-going price!

I'm with you there, Jeff. There are still 3 days left in this auction and it's already received 42 bids! I wouldn't be surprised if it fetched $25K when it's all said and done.......well, actually I guess that I would - who has that kind of coin to spend on a record of all things??

No way Paul, I disagree. Buying five or six of THESE beauties in various shades is a MUCH better way to spend $25K.....

Boy, did that knock it down a bit. Looks like it'll sell for far less than the $25K guestimate if it sells at all now. Still interesting none the less.........

The Observer
Original artwork used by the Beatles on their Rubber Soul album goes up for auction on Wednesday having lain forgotten for 42 years in its artist's attic. Charles Front was a little-known art director in London when he was approached by Bob Freeman, the Beatles' photographer, to create artwork for a new sleeve.
'To me it was just another piece I'd done and I had put it away and forgotten about it,' says Front, now retired. 'When I took it down to Bonhams I went on the underground with it in a carrier bag. When I came back after discovering its value I was absolutely clutching it in a case.' The lettering will be auctioned at Bonhams in London with a guide price of £10,000.
Front designed the iconic bubble-shaped lettering, heralding a style that became a staple of poster art for the flower power generation. But he said that the design for the typography was not, as many critics have since claimed, induced by psychedelic drugs.
'Whether the Beatles were into LSD or not I don't know but I certainly wasn't. It was all about the name of the album,' he said. 'If you tap into a rubber tree then you get a sort of globule, so I started thinking of creating a shape that represented that, starting narrow and filling out. I was paid 26 guineas and five shillings.'

The 'flower power' typographic design may not have been designed under the influence of psychedelic drugs, but it (and the music it was being used to package, not to mention the accompanying clothing style) was certainly being consumed under their influence.
If you tap into human consciousness, you get a sort of social and cultural revolution...they tend to start narrow and fill out, as well.
