I took Bob Young's advice and looked for a real EBO. I found this 72 with a Badass bridge. I just bought a 3 point Gibson bridge for 25 bucks. THey started putting those on in 73 because the two point ones could tilt. Here is a picture of the problem, and why I got it so cheap. It may be going to Dale if it needs anything serious, but at the price I got it for, the parts will be worth as much as I paid.



The knobs will also need to be replaced...

They invented a little thing called eq to overcome that. Single coils are like talking through your nose, with a lot of hum to go with it!

WELL, sure, but that hum thang (maybe Dolby could work some magic!) is hard to hide! You may now have more of a clue as to why I sold my 4003 and got a 4004!

Y'know, I played a tonally-frustrating gig last night, and I found myself wishing that my tone was muddier. This bass would do the trick for me!

Though, I do find them to be a little flimsy. I'll take this one though!

A Telecaster bass? I saw one of those one in a guitar store way back in the early 70s, played it a little through an SVT they had on the floor with a pair of 8x10s. It sounded kinda nice on medium flatwounds with the eq diddled a little bit to rolloff low bass, boots midrange a little, and treble on center position. A little less muddy than an EB0, but less sustain despite the string-through-body config.

The early EBO's were muddier because the pup was right up against the neck. This 72 has it further back so not quite as bad!

I had an early 70's Tele also with the big humbucker in it, I think they did that to compete with the Gibsons. I like the earlier ones with the single coil pickups much better, big $$$ though, they are really just reissue early 50's P basses. They are very pretty basses.
I bet that one sounds nice with the P bass pickup in it.

I used to have a couple of those '72 Tele Basses. I put a hi-gain pickup on both of them, a bit further back than the P pickup on the one above, and BA II bridges. The first TB also got the "bandsaw" treatment to reshape the body a bit.

I have a '71 EB-O and am debating whether to keep it or not and mine is in much better shape than the one you bought:
