Which Beatle written

Were any of the subsequent hits (to Please Please Me) performed live by the Beatles as part of their live sets prior to PPM becoming a Number one hit?
eg. from me to you, or did their commerciality come after the first number one? Were the self penned tracks on the Please Please Me album performed live prior to fame.

Please Please Me went number one in the UK by February 22, 1963. I assume you are talking about the single here and not the album. The following songs were part of the Beatles' repetoire prior to that date.
1. I Saw Her Standing There
2. Anna (Go To Him)
3. Boys (sung by Pete Best until August 1962!)
4. Love Me Do
5. P. S. I Love You
6. Baby It's You
7. Do You Want To Know A Secret
8. Twist and Shout
9. A Taste Of Honey

I never knew PB sang Boys live - weird. Any record of it?

That's not weird at all. Ringo inherited Pete's spot in the band and part of that was singing Boys and Matchbox. My friend Alan Stratton from Liverpool was witness to that and it's mentioned in several books.

Right on the mark Larry! Also according to Gareth Palowski's "How They Became The Beatles" book, Pete also sang "Peppermint Twist" in the early days.

That's right Jeff, the Peppermint Twist too. Ringo had his own spot with The Hurricanes called Starr Time so he was already used to having his turn at the microphone. Alan Stratton said at The Cavern The Beatles would rotate songs so they all had their turn. If you listen to Live At The Star Club you can hear that. George sang lead vocal on a lot more songs back then(before they became famous).

I was thinking of Lennon/Macartney compositions which would take out 3 6 and 8 . ?
Hmm there was a point I was going to make based on that info but I think I may have had a scotch or two too many.

John: It would take out 2,3,6,8 and 9 or if you like it would leave 1,4,5 and 7.
Do you suppose that things woulod have turned out any differently had they released I Saw her Standing There first? Somehow I doubt it.
Had they released A Taste of Honey, however, things might have taken a bit longer to take off. Was their live performance following, strong enough at this early point to springboard them to popularity or was Please Please Me the nexus?
