My '67 360/12 has a white nut.

Does any one else have a 67 model with a white nut?

Thanks for any info.

Russell, it could be original but most '67s that I've seen sport a black nut. No big deal either way.

Hey Jason! Thanks for posting.

When I received this guitar (a wedding gift from my wife many years ago) it appeared to be almost unplayed. I can't imagine the original owner changed the nut as it is cut with the traditional RIC spacing (lower string on top).

I just don't recall seeing a 67 model with a white nut.

I acquired a one owner '68 360/12FG with not only a white nut, but had the strings arranged in the "Traditional" 12 string arrangement rather than the RIC arrangement that we all know and love. The owner claimed he bought the guitar brand new after returning from Viet Nam and that's the way it came. I have only his word that this is true. At the time, I asked JH about this story. He told me that the guitar would never have left the factory with a white nut. And they would not likely have done it as a special order. I ordered a nut with the current factory spacing and had it "restored". The origin of this nut remains a mystery.

Interesting.
When did you acquire the guitar?
The nut on my guitar appears to be totally original.
Seems other Forum members own, or have owned, other late 60's models with a white nut.

Thanks Don, I'm so glad you posted again.

Not really any big a deal to me either, but... just curious.

I am lucky enough to have a modest collection of Rickenbacker guitars, mostly 12 strings, and this is my favorite.

Just looking for info.

The Banjoline I owned had a factory white nut, it was a '68. Sure, there more instruments than you might think that had white factory nuts. I've seen quite a few 625s from this period with white nuts as well.

MY '67 625 had a white nut...I replaced it with black, as it had been chewed up by the only previous owner. Whether or not it was original I can't say, and hearsay is not history.

But a Rick 12er with conventional string arrangement, is most certainly not original, unless it belonged to what's her name.

Guitar making back then was not such an exact science as it has become today. Back in the 60's, Fender, Gibson and Rickenbacker, I'm sure, used the parts they had on hand, and if they weren't exactly the "norm" for any particular model, so what? That's why you see so many anomalies on vintage guitars-stuff that shouldn't be original but is original.

None of the major guitar companies could afford to just throw out loose parts. Everything had to be used.
