"And what do you do?"

This was a couple years ago, but interesting...and funny:
Queen Elizabeth II had a crash course in rock and pop music when she hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace for hundreds of stars from Eric Clapton to Geri Halliwell.
Introduced to four guitar masters -- Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Brian May -- at the reception for Britain's music industry her majesty asked: "And what do you do?"
May, from the rock band Queen, reminded the queen that he had played the National Anthem on the palace roof to start a concert marking her 2002 Golden Jubilee.
"Oh! That was you was it?" Elizabeth II exclaimed.
Moving on to Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, the queen inquired: "Are you a guitarist too?"
Guitar god Eric Clapton took no chances and, firmly shaking her hand, introduced himself by name.
"Have you been playing a long time?" the queen asked.
"It must be 45 years now," replied Clapton, 59.

Often wondered why she carries a purse. What do you suppose she keeps in there? ID? Gummi Worms? Flask?

To be one of the richest women in the world, it has always been said, by those honest enough to say it, that she is not very bright at all.
But even with that, it is clear she does no research work on who the people are that she meets, and to give her a break she is said to have a now-memory these days that has been reduced to about four minutes long due to age and Alzheimer's. Those lines to May and Clapton et al were simply embarrassing to her, in her decline, as well as insulting to them, given the reason they were there.

Methinks, age and all that comes with it may happen to any of us. And i do not think everybody must be interested in/know a lot about rock music.
and i wonder what Brits would say about this thread...

I agree, Sheena. Of course, most of the Brit friends I've had greatly enjoyed a few friendly swipes at the Royals.
I just think the expressions on the guitarists' faces are priceless. And what was the name of that old band of Brian May's anyway...?

Ah--who was it? Her great-great-grandpappy George Somethingoranother who used to go about the country having conversations with trees before it was hip? Such things may run in the family, I suppose.

Well if the tabloids over there are any indication, I don't think this thread would even register with most of them.

Got to remember that she probably meets scores of people each week. To do research on them would be a full time task in itself.

Kris,
I'm sure should could find a staff member or two to do the research.
Or, maybe Larry King could give her some inside information !!!!!
