It's no longer a website option to send to Australia using USPS International Economy Surface, so the shipping price for certain items has effectively doubled.

Anyone know if this a website glitch or a change of USPS policy?

This has the serious possibility of cutting off the viability of shipping low value items such as books, CDs and guitar parts outside the US. Fed Ex and UPS are just too expensive for these kinds of items. I don't care about trackability or time, I only care about keeping the costs down!

Tried to get a quote for a few loose Hammond organ keys and it came back at $38. The keys are only worth a few dollars, and previously would have posted for about $15-20 but now...

I tried to ship a guitar to Aitch using the old standby Economy Surface, back last Spring, only to be told that it had been eliminated for larger packages, which included guitars according to their measurement requirements.

So, it was Fed Ex, and it ain't cheap...

USPS has gone WAY up and cut some services...no more surface mail and international first class is much higher then airmail was. On the domestic front, sometime this year media mail will be phased out..bad for us who buy/sell records or books...

The good news is that the USPS have enough resources to cover our daily need for hundreds of pounds of junk mail. It is good that they have their priorities straight. How else would I get all my:

coupons for stuff I don't want
exciting offers to join a new cult
solicitations to have new windows
sub-prime lending ads
free tickets for real estate seminars
ads for plastic surgeons
information on how to obtain pharmaceuticals and watches

(this was the creme de la creme of my mail the past couple of weeks)

In better times, they owned a cycling team, which really raised their efficiency (those guys were either delivering the mail or just made them feel better about themselves), but those times have passed.

My local USPS puts mail not addressed to me in my mailbox; when I write on it "Addressee Unknown - Return To Sender", they just put it back in my mailbox with "throw it away" scrawled on it. Isn't that special?!

Forget UPS to Australia too. When I sent the "F" body to Trott, the bill clocked in around 4 bills.
