Timeless Flyte - A Tribute to The Byrds

Post by janglebox »

The first two of a four-volume set, "Timeless FlyteÑA Tribute to the Byrds", have just been released. Instead of CDs, this collection is being issued as digital downloads only. The collection totals more than 40 songs originally performed by the Byrds.

Les Fradkin, who some of you may know from his participation on the other Ric Forum and his many jangle-style CDs, is the driving force behind this project, along with Eric Sorensen, columnist for Fufkin.com. Les and Eric have assembled a group of outstanding performers including Andrew Gold, Walter Egan, Jeff Foskett (Beach Boys), Bill Lloyd (Foster & Lloyd), Buddy Woodward (Dixie Bee-Liners), Last Train Home, Al Perkins and others.

The two recent releases are "Reflyte" and "The Dylan Connection". The next two are "Eight Miles High" and "Nashville West". All the best known Byrds songs are included. Some artists adhere closely to the original Byrds style; others impart their own unique approach.

Along with all this terrific talent, my wife and I were grateful to be asked to participate. We named our twosome JangleBox Ñ pretty original, no? For our contribution (Dylan's "Lay Down Your Weary Tune") I simply double tracked a 360-12CW, and added a brief solo. Along with our two vocals, that's it... sort of an electric folk song.

But, our small contribution aside, this is a truly wonderful collection of great performances. If you're a fan of the Byrds, I'm sure you'll find something to your liking.
