Hi there. I just acquired one of these that i plan to have restored for daily use. i was wondering how many of these were made, and just any info about them in general. her serial number is 4C6 126. i got her for $846 on ebay, was thinking i got a great deal, tho she needs alot of fixing. i'd love it if anyone would drop me a line at [email protected] to let me know anything about the history of this or other Rickenbackers. please put "Rickenbacker" or similar in the subject 'cause i get alot of spam. thanks! -Walter

The guitar you picked up is a '56 Combo 400.

They aren't too common, but show up from time to time.

The finish isn't original as the seller believed, and at one time it likely had some material on the back to cover up the wood joins. Aside from that it looks to be fairly complete. If you need a bridge cover, you can order a gold mandolin bridge cover that will fit appropriately.

My '56 Combo 400 serial number is 4C6 189. Whats really weird is: It has the 1960 metal trussrod cover, is Fire-Glo, & has no flocking material on it back. Cool!
