Hank Marvin was recently in UK promoting a new album and told a tale I found interesting.
In 1966 The Shadows were recording in Abbey Road when Paul McCartney dropped in.
In a conversation with Hank he mentioned he had just written a tune that he thought would be great for The Shadows and strummed guitar and hummed it to Hank.
He promised to send it to Hank on tape, it never arrived and a few months later Hank heard that tune on the new Beatles album
Whether McCartney only had tune or had wrote words at meeting with HM was not made clear.
Anyway 41 years later if anyone is intrigued here's what that track may have sounded like had The Shadows been sent it and recorded it

Roy,
That is absolutely beautiful. I had forgotten what a great guitar player Hank is. Thanks for sharing. I have played it twice already. What more can I say?

That's great, Roy! Hank Marvin is a wonderfully expressive guitarist and does that song full justice. Thank you
very much!!
Makes me want to break out something with a vibrato arm and have a crack at it....... want to give it a try in November, Brian?

Very nice, nice touch on the guitar, that rendition brings out the beauty of McCartney's writing or maybe it is just hearing the song in a different context, either way it's very good.

Wow!
Makes you wonder how that song would have been perceived differently... That is a class act.

Although neither Hank Marvin nor the Shadows were ever well known in the United States, despite several appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show, Marvin is nonetheless listed by Frank Zappa as an early influence on the first Mothers of Invention album, and Afrikaa Bambaataa cited the group's first UK number one single "Apache" as a big influence. Canadian guitarists Randy Bachman and Neil Young have both credited Marvin's guitar work as being major influences on their careers. Carlos Santana's nickname in his formative years was Apache because it was one of the earliest pieces he learned to play.

Yes Mark Bachman and Young are featured on an Album called Twang - Tribute to the Shadows they do a version of Spring Is Nearly Here from The Shadows second album and good version too.
Others on the album are Brian May, Peter Frampton, Mark Knopfler to name just three.
