Given Chris Squire's proficiency on the bass, I often entertain notions of how he'd fit in with other bands outside of Yes. When John Entwhistle passed away right at the start of The Who's 2002 tour, I immediately thought who better suited and stylistically well-matched than Chris Squire to step in for the tour. Of course, this is in complete disregard of the personal & business issues that come into play when dealing with the loss of another one of Rock's greatest bass-players. But it's sure fun to entertain strictly on an idealistic level. Sure, further practicality would dictate that Squire would need sufficient time to learn the set list, and this would also assume that he wasn't busy with his other Yes commitments. But can you imagine!

I found MP3s of 'The Syn' with Chris Squire from 1967. 'Grounded' and '14 Hour Technicolor Dream.' Cool psychedelic stuff! The bass really cuts through nicely on 'Grounded.' If anyone wants to hear these recordings, email me directly and I'll send the MP3s to you.

Chris's record label "Umbrello" released a 2004 compilation called The Syn - Original Syn 1965-2004, and it not only includes remastered content, it also includes the actual recordings they did as teenagers in 1965. Decent quality on the remastered stuff, but on some of the raw original 1965 recordings it is awful quality (but what do you expect from so long ago, in a budget one or two track studio). The original version of Flowerman at the end of Disc 1, for example, is much different than the remastered, and has Chris doing the most psychedelic flanged opening you could imagine! It hardly sounds like his RM1999, but it must have been.
It is 2CDs, and well worth $20 at Amazon
He also got back together with Steve Nardelli, and even though keys guy Andrew Jackman had died, they reformed Syn for a couple of years - right after YES went on hiatus in 2004, and made a two-man album (with decent sidemen too)) with just Chris and Steve on the cover, and it is pretty good listening too
I kinda think it was nostalgia on the part of Chris, getting back to his roots for awhile...

Chris Squire and the Moody Blues Justin Hayward, now that would be a CD that I'd wait in line to buy, if those two ever got together!
