Colour of the year

Curious...about when did the colour of the year program start, has RED ever been one? Sorry about the spelling of COLOUR, but I am typing on Canadian typewriter eh?
I believe that it started in 2000.
2000 - Sea Green
2001 - Desert Gold
2002 - Burgundy
2003 - Montezuma Brown
