Saw Emmylou Harris last night at Symphony Center in Chicago. As usual, she had the amazing Buddy Miller on guitar. He played a 330/12 on "Every Grain of Sand" and it was gorgeous! Unfortunately, that was the only appearance of the Ric. Buddy also played a very cool TEO short-scale 12 string, which makes another great chiming sound. He is a fabulous and very tasteful guitarist.

Buddy plays his Ric a LOT on his wife, Julie Miller's, CD's. Allow me to urge everyone to run out and get a copy of Julie's "Broken Things" to hear Buddy's most excellent Ric (and Wandre', and Dana Bourgois') work.

And if you've heard Buddy live, be aware that his playing is much more...restrained...in the studio than on stage.

Well put, Paul. With Emmylou, he was somewhat restricted by the laid-back nature of most of her new material, but really rocked the older stuff. He can sound like Albert Lee one minute, and evoke the spacey guitar sounds of 'Wrecking Ball' the next. If you get a chance to see him live, especially with Julie, don't miss it!
