Does anyone know the timelines for which were finished, or unfinished? Are any of them finished?
Mine is unfinished (2005, Cii) and I've seen pics of others that appear to have a clear finish, but I can't seem to figure a pattern.

I thought the change was in '04. I have one Cii/5 with a finished fingerboard and another '04 Cii/5 that has the fingerboard unfinished. My '04 Cii also has the fingerboard unfinished.

OK thanks, and please keep them coming. I don't see a pattern here, but I don't know.
I suppose there could be a difference depending on if the bass in question is a Laredo, or Cheyenne.
I wonder if it is an option. I wonder, because all my basses were purchased used. In some cases, well used.

Mine was unfinished,,, but had a real "chalky" appearance to it. I taped off the fingerboard and applied a light coating of tung oil that took care of the chalky problem and really brought out some nice grain that you didnt notice before.
I recomend this for those of you that have the unfinished boards. It really brings out some beautiful grain.

My ex-'05 TG Cii was unfinished, '05 Laredo was finished (now finished in JG

), '03 LK and '94 Ci were oil finshed, '98 Laredo (maple fretboard) is finished. I forget what the '04 Cii/5 was since I only had it a few weeks.

Scott, what year is yours?
Anyone see a pattern? I still don't.
It's not a big deal, just a matter of curiosity. Joey said there may have been a change in 2004?
Maybe the "boss" can set the record straight.

Scott, I always assumed the fingerboard on the trans red 4004Cii you had, was finished.

I think it is safe to assume that the maple-fretboards on the early Laredo were glossy varnish, and those on the original Cheyenne have either a matte sealer or are unfinished - I can't tell which. The pattern to the finished/unfinished bubinga fretboards on the later Laredos and Cheyennes vary, and it would be interesting to discover why the variation occurs.

"it would be interesting to discover why the variation occurs."
Exactly, thanks Paul.
By finished, I mean like the 4003 are finished, with a clear varnish (or whatever it is called)
Mine is like "raw" rosewood,(bubinga?) although it may be "finished" with oil, matte sealer or something. But it's definitely not like my 4001 /4003 basses.
