Hey, does anyone know the deal on the Blue Boys? I was checking out the RIC website and in the color options section it noted the Blue Boys are now available worldwide. What gives? I thought those were only available internationally?

There's a new 330 Blue Boy on eBay now, whose seller is from the UK.

Sure will be one sweet boy if you swap the high gains for toasters!

Mike Parks also has a slew of Blue Boys on order. They include a 660/6 and a 660/12, as well as a 381v69/12. Very interesting stuff. The 330 was missing, which is the model that I think best suits the colour. (Why do I think of the 330 as a throw around, rocking bad boy that demands a "look at me" colour scheme?) Anyway, I'm glad the 330 is missing from Mike's list, because my wallet probably would have taken another unmanageable hit.

If this is the same seller I've seen on other occasions (who was also posting from the U.K.), this guitar has been on sale for quite some time. I briefly thought about bidding, but realised there was no way I could pay what he was asking given the exchange rates. (There also seems to be a disproportionately nasty mark-up in the U.K. for American made musical equipment. The prices being asked for Fender American Standard instruments, for example, are just extraordinary!)

By the by, are there any North American owners of "Blue Boy" Rics who are upset about the worldwide release of the colour? I'd be a bit peeved, I think, if I'd paid a premium to import one, only to have Ric make it a standard colour.

Yeah - It kinda stinks. Wasn't these going for close to 2K a few months ago... Now they're at regular USA prices.

I agree, Godfatha, and I would be a little peeved if I'd paid all that money for one of the "imports".
But have any of you seen the 330 that is on the Pick of the Ricks site that has a fireglo finish, but gold guards???? It's advertised as new, but I didn't think you could get one with gold guards. It is very pretty, IMHO...
I agree with you, John, that the 330 is a rockin' throw-around, bad-boy geetar, which is why I like them so much better than the 360s. They also look great in Montezuma Brown!

Yeah but I think the gold guards are custom made.

Well, I can see that someone who paid a premium for a Blue Boy might be peeved, but that was a risk they took. No one at Rickenbacker ever guaranteed it was going to be an export-only model forever.

If you follow the link on Mike Parks' site to the RIC display at the 2001 Tokyo Music Fair:

http://www.rickenbacker.com/us/tokyo2001.htm

you'll see a 700C Blueboy on the wall.

Hi all,

I'm new here, no Rickenbackers just yet but I plan to live off pasta next year so who knows....

Regarding the Blue Boys, Peter Cook's Guitar World in London UK has a deal on them at the moment. If I remember correctly it's £849 for a 330/6, they also have 360s but I can't remember whether they have them for the same price or slightly higher. They also have a 620/6 for £799, can't remember the colour. Unfortunately they have no web presence that I know of.

Comparing adverts in guitar magazines, they're about the cheapest I've seen. I think the regular price for a 330 is just under £900.

Cheers, Tav.

Welcome to The Rickenbacker Forum, Tavis. Thanks for the information on UK pricing. Should you have a contact phone number for Peter Cook's Guitar World please post it.

The phone number is +44(0)208 840 1244

I got this from the Vox website, so hopefully it's accurate.

Cheers.

Paul,

that's a "Turly Amzanig" ( see "The Others" category for explanation) photo of the Blue Boy in it's case, the first image where the guitar is stuck to the lid of the case while opened. Cool, how did you do that, Epoxy? ;-)

Epoxy is for a "Nike Braccker" sole, haha!
This 330 BB has a "bolt-on" design that sticks itself to the lid for maximum transport stability!

All kiddings aside, I think the first picture was taken with the guitar lying flat in its case and then posted "downside-up" by the seller.

Yeah, I knew that but it looks cool the way it was posted LOL.
