This song was a top ten hit in Britain and Europe. Didn't get much airplay in the US. On the original recording, Elton John (who at that point was a session musician for the Hollies) played piano.
Here, Tony Hicks, their lead guitarist, is playing bass because their real bassist, Bernie Calvert, was also their keyboard player. Hicks is playing Calvert's guitar. We're not sure what model this is. A British export model?
Tony Hicks, by the way, is one of the all time underrated English guitarists. He was the George Harrison of Manchester, the sister city to Liverpool (younger than everybody else, but pulled into the best group in town because he was noticeably talented).
