I'm new here and haven't much time but for all it's worth, I have owned two V63's in my time, one a 2000 and the other a 2002 (1st week). The 2000 Fireglo had a very loud toaster pickup in it, all the bottom you could want, the horseshoe was also very hot, they blended beautifully, on the other hand the Mapleglo 2002 had a very weak anemic toaster in it, and an extremely hot horseshoe, I had to sell both unfortunately (marriage) But every Ric bass (in my humble opinion) is a little different. By the way, has anyone had problems with a weak sounding E string on bass pickups, especially with older 4001's? This is my first post by the way, so forgive me if this problem has already been addressed.

I went back through the archives and found it, I think they were maybe ten members posting regularly at that time in the bass section including: JH, Sergio, Peter, Owen, Gene, Andrew, Dane, Lindsay, Gary, Jeff, Jeffrey, and Don, some others who aren't around any more also who were regular for a long time.

Heh-heh. Interesting idea. I don't even have to go to archives to find it.

just wanted to add some point. Whatever was the reason for Mr.Pender to quit, it seems (at least from the place i live) like he's the only one who managed to gain some success after having left. To say, if you lived in Russia, the ONLY Searchers' stuff you could hear here and there on the radio (and it was even on TV once) would be MPS' version of Love Potion #9. Nice version, anyway.

I haven't been able to locate #1 yet. Came across #2 but can't find the thread now!

It's not easy, took me a while. even though all I had to do was look in April of 2003, there were a lot of posts to look through and I was right at the end of the month. That was the first month you had to register to post.

I tried and tried, mostly for my own curiosity...

Found #2500, 6 months after I joined. Looked all through my first month; nada. The "Search" function goes back to March 2005 in my case; covers less than 1500 posts.

I am in process of editing my posts for my book; I suppose I'll find it then???

Wow....lots of memories in those archives, Kendall, Paul Yan (a WIZARD with a camera and a Rick), so many people who had just started posting....and of course, a lot of Jeff Rath, who turned me on to this Forum when we were working together and he was selling me Ricks.

Also read a post about a DG 4003S8 which sold on Ebay for a then-astronmical $2K. That was when you could get a good used one for under $800.

"My trusty and much-loved all-original (as far as I can tell) 1975 4001. I got this from ebay in May 2004.

I've always dug them and I wanted to find a white (or in this case off-white) with a white pick guard model and as old as I could.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I'm hoping someone could help me out. I'm looking for a well-played 4001/4003 as a basis for my idea of the perfect Ric. This would be my third Ric and I want to do something completely different from my first two, but I have neither the money for a pristine bass or the desire to overhaul a fine example. Basically, the finish could be worn, electronics could work or not work (doesn't matter) and I love both models so that is irrelevant as well. If you or someone you know might have a bass that would work for what I want please let me know, I appreciate any and all responses! Thank you all in advance... I'm thrilled to have found this board- I never knew anything like it existed!

I asked that after finding a pre-68 4000 with its original horseshoe for sale locally, it was refinished and converted to fretless. Over at the Dudepit I was told it was worth $300 tops, but was advised to ask here.

BTW shouldn't this thread be on the Rickenbacker General forum, not in "the others"?

Hi all! This is my first post, so let me introduce myself: I'm living in Norway, I work as a musician and play lots of different basses (fenders, gibsons). I have one Rickenbacker 4001 from -75, so this thread caught my attention. Also the name Frode sounds very norwegian, right Frode? I'm sure you want pics of my bass. Lets see if I can do this...
